I have been putting off watching this video and typing this post for the longest. I though, I would watch and write about the song, only when it hits five million views on YouTube. Well, it just did that recently. So, I watched the full video and I am very impressed. Before we dig deeper, let go ahead and watch that video again:
Voiced by iconic and unique vocals such as Brijesh Shrestha and Barsha Karmachary, "Oh Maicha" is a very soothing but equally naughty track to begin with. There is esthetic in the way the song is composed and it almost seems like it nods to older Newari music, specially the comic ones. There's a lot of teasing and flirting going on, on the lyrical side and the music definitely gives it a unique tone with touch of older Newari and 80s/90s Bollywood vibes. Even-though, it is in Nepali language, there are few lines in Newari which makes it so unique.
The video for the same is produced by NESS Studio and co-directed by very talented Brijesh Shrestha and Beyond (also the lyricist). The video is done quite nicely and does more than justice to the song. It opens with parents going out to the field to start the day, of off the typically styled, old Newari house in the morning, commanding their daughter to stay put and away from the troubles. Then the guy enters and woos the girl. The way the couple interact with each other and the parents is shown as it would in the previous times. In that manner, this video is very authentic and to this day, in some areas where the Newars held their ground for their culture and tradition against western civilization, would see and hear similar incidents. At the end of the video, there is a small cliffhanger and the makers promised the story would be continued.
So, what do you think of the song and the official music video? Are you as excited as we are, for the sequel to the video that it promised at the end? Let us know on the comment section below. Also, please follow us for more news and information like this:
