Directed by Leena Yadav (also directed Shadb, Teen Patti and Parched), Rajma Chawal is set in Delhi where widowed father Raj (Rishi Kapoor) tries new ways to communicate with his angry son Kabir (Anirudh Tanwar). Raj goes through troubles to create a fake facebook id using Seher’s (Amyra Dastur) picture without consent, just so he could communicate with his son. However, everything gets mixed up when Kabir meets Seher while performing a gig.
First act of the movie is pretty bland and fails to impress the audience as the opening scene promised some meaningful drama. However, it fails to set up the lead characters as well as the invisible ones. But the most frustrating thing about the initial act is not knowing why someone is behaving as he or she did.
The movie tries and somewhat succeed to let us know about Kabir's musical side. But, what bothers me is that, he joins a random band from near Chadani Chowk and starts to play gigs at popular places without any struggle.
Movie, however is successful in displaying the conflict between a father and a son and the desperate father going above and beyond to communicate with his son. Once the female led enters, the movie gets back to the gear. Overall, it is an average watch. Humor is the only thing that kept me in front of the screen.
